Competition Time!!!

May 20, 2013

Time for a competition!!!!

I haven’t done one of these before now but I’ve met so many lovely yogis over the last year that I really want to share something with you all. We’re having a Facebook Giveaway!

Don’t worry, it’s not a competition to see who can get the most shares – I can’t stand those. Instead, the winner will be drawn from all of the people who ‘like’ the Gaiamara Yoga Facebook page! Easy.

So all you have to do is ‘like’ the page, if you haven’t already, to go in the draw to win a 10-Class Pass, valued at $140, valid for 3 months. If you have friends who you think will benefit from yoga or who already love it but aren’t fans of the page then perhaps you’d like to share this with them.   The winner will be drawn on the 21st of June 2013 so what are you waiting for? Click the for the link here and you’ll be in the running!

Just remember, yoga is for everyone – regardless of age, ability, or flexibility. So jump in and have a go! I look forward to sharing yoga with you all.

Easter Long Weekend

March 18, 2013

Greetings fellow yogis and yoginis!

Gaiamara Yoga studio will be closed over the Easter Weekend (29th of March to 1st of April) but will be open again from Tuesday the 2nd of April. The rest of the week will be running as normal.

If you’re hankering for a yoga fix over the Easter weekend then you might like to practice a few rounds of beginner’s Surya Namaskara (Sun Salutations). Follow the link to the practice and happy yoga-ing!

For the more advanced and familiar with Surya Namaskara you might like to follow this

Be sure to keep the knee above the ankle in the lunge (not depicted correctly here) to protect from hyper-extending the knee joint. Enjoy! Try it early in the morning facing the sun and see how the day fares afterwards…. you’ll be pleasantly surprised 😉

Have a safe and wonderful Easter Weekend and I’ll see you on the flipside!

How’s the New Year’s Resolutions going?

February 19, 2013

Calvina and NY Resolutions

Whilst you may be feeling like Calvin when people ask this question, have you really stopped to think about it? What did you intend, whether formally or not, for this year? Are you even close to achieving that and was it something that was possible to achieve?

We may consider New Year’s Resolutions as a crock but in reality we make them anyway. We think to ourselves as we greet the 1st of January, “I’m not going to do x, y and z this year. I want this year to be better than the last…” or perhaps it’s more along the lines of, “I want this year to be as great as the last year!” Either way, we are setting our intentions for the year ahead.

Such intentions don’t need to be grandiose or even that impressive to other people. It can be something as seemingly simple as, “I want to be happier.”

One of the children in my kid’s class decided his affirmation for this term of yoga would be, “I am happy.” Another’s was, “I am a yogi.” How beautiful is that? Not to mention, powerful!

So, take some time to reflect on those thoughts you had earlier this year. What did you expect from this year and are you willing to get up and make it happen? Because lamenting a wasted year this New Year’s Eve is going to be far more painful than getting out there and having a go. What do you really have to lose?

Season’s Greetings and Happy New Year!
